Understanding How Mobile-First and Core Web Vitals Go Hand-in-Hand for Page Experience Success

Image
The implementation of mobile-first indexing, which was long-awaited, is now finally upon us. That is to say, the search giant Google will disregard the content visible only on the desktop from this point onwards. For several years, mobile-first has been Google’s priority as user experience has become one of the most important things now, if not “the most important.” Google will shortly roll out the Page Experience update as a whole now. According to the company, “page experience signal measures aspects of how users perceive the experience of interacting with a web page.” It comprises five main Search signals. Hopefully, you know at least four of these signals, including mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS-security, and intrusive interstitial, as they have been effective for a while now. Google has rolled out and updated the guidelines for each of these as it is trying to keep up with the growing customer expectations. Wondering what’s new now? In May, the search engine will...

Google Explains the Volatility of Featured Snippets in Search

Image
At the beginning of March 2021, the search giant Google discarded heaps of featured snippets, and then, later on, they came back. In a recent Google Search Central office-hours hangout, Google’s John Mueller explained the reasons featured snippets visibility changes. FEATURED SNIPPETS VOLATILITY IN SEARCH At the start of March 2021, featured snippets seemed to vanish from Google search results. Some people called it historic lows. However, Google has not provided much information on this until recently. In a recent Google Search Central office-hours hangout, John Mueller, Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google, explained why featured snippets are not always stable on the search engine results pages. WAS FEATURED SNIPPETS VOLATILITY INTENTIONAL? A person asked Mueller if this removal of the featured snippets was deliberate or if it was due to some other reason. Typically such changes are gradual and not so apparently histrionic. The individual said that they were wondering if G...

Google Might Expand Web Stories Roll Out if More Websites Use Them

Image
John Mueller, the Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google, said that the search engine giant might roll out Web Stories to SERPs in additional regions if more websites begin posting them. In a recent live stream on Google Search Central, John Mueller reveals that this applies to all search features. During the live stream, a website owner asked Mueller if there is any information about Web Stories being rolled out to the SERPs in more countries. Currently, Web Stories are available in the SERPs in India, Brazil, and the United States. The website owner here wants to lay the groundwork for when Google Web Stories will be supported in search results in their country. With John Mueller’s response to this question, what we discovered is website owners can themselves impact the search engine’s decision to launch search features (Google Web Stories in this case) in additional regions. They can do so by preparing ahead of time. Let’s discuss this in detail now. WEBSITE OWNERS CAN INFL...

Are Keyword-Heavy Titles Not Against Google’s Guidelines?

Image
There is a bit of confusion surrounding keyword-heavy titles and descriptions, and Google’s John Mueller has clarified it as a common practice that does not violate the search engine’s webmaster guidelines. Recently, during Google Search Central  SEO  live stream, this topic was addressed. An SEO professional told Mueller that very often, they see small businesses drenching their titles and descriptions with commercial keywords even after being advised not to do so. For example, you must have come across some local business’ website with a description that looked like – “birthday caterers Florida, wedding caterers Florida, corporate caterers Florida, theme party caterers Florida …” and so on. This is pretty common to spot online. While these aren’t exactly aesthetically pleasing, one can often find pages with such descriptions acquiring higher ranking positions in the SERPs. The SEO professional asks Mueller why such keyword-heavy titles and descriptions are widespread in the ...

Black Hat SEO: What It Is and Why You Should Avoid It

Image
Take a trip down memory lane and think about how things were ten years ago. When people incorrectly presumed that SEO was nothing but a manipulative marketing maneuver that was all about deceiving the search engine’s algorithm and using strategies to trick Google (or any other search engine) into thinking that your website satisfies the search query best.  This isn’t the way things should have ever been, and  SEO  professionals should have always focused on building a website that actually is the best result for a specific query instead of just giving a false impression that it is. However, when it came to detecting web spam, Google’s algorithm wasn’t really that advanced back then.  Taking advantage of the situation, many SEO practitioners were abundantly using black hat SEO techniques to rank their websites, but fortunately, things have drastically changed.  In this blog, we will discuss what black hat SEO is, what risks are associated with it and which...
