  On Thursday, the Central Government issued new guidelines for the regulation of social media and OTT platforms to restrain the exploitation of content. The Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Prakash Javadekar briefed the media, welcoming social media companies to operate and do business in India and applauding them for gathering such immense popularity and a good number of users. Moreover, they praised these platforms for empowering the average users with the power of technology. However, the ministers said that the double standards of  social media  won’t be acceptable anymore and that regulating the actions of social networking companies in India has become crucial. YouTube Rolls Out 4K Video Support for All Android Devices

  It looks like the popular video-sharing platform YouTube has quietly released a new update allowing people to stream 4K/60p videos on all mobile devices, even on the ones that do not have an Ultra HD display. Although people using devices with a lesser display resolution won’t get the same video quality as they would with a higher resolution screen, turning on the 4K video playback option will still benefit them. As per a trusted source, this change was discussed late last week on the YouTube subreddit first, where people observed that the option to select 4K video playback was now available to them even though their devices didn’t have a 4K display. New Guidelines Announced for Social Media Influencers for Disclosure of Promotional Ad Content

  The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has issued draft guidelines for social media influencers in order to bring transparency to digital media. ASCI pointed out that today influencer advertising has become quite popular, and the majority of posts that influencers publish are promotional, yet most of them aren’t recognized as such. This type of non-disclosure is a disservice to people and is also more or less misleading. According to the new guidelines, all  social media  influencers will need to reveal whether a particular creative post (image, video, or written content) is an advertisement or not. Moreover, if there are any product placements, influencers will have to add a pre-approved disclosure label that mentions the same precisely.
